Carmi’s Volunteer Fire Department has a new chief. He’s not new to the department though. Daniel Ballard was chosen to lead the municipality’s fire response at Tuesday’s Carmi City Council meeting. He’s been with the department for some time and comes from a firefighting heritage.
The new chief says there’s lots of work to do, but his crew is up to the challenge.
Modernizing the department is also paramount.
Ballard previously served as the Carmi Fire Department Captain and takes over for Larry Hite who abruptly resigned about a month and a half ago. The Carmi Fire Department also has a new Secretary/Treasurer. Sherry Anderson was appointed to that position. The Carmi Fire Department has been in operation since the early 1880’s.
