Perhaps the biggest news to come out of the Carmi City Council meeting Monday is what wasn’t said. John and Rochelle Hubele were in attendance. They’re the owners of property city attorney Greg Stewart says the municipality inadvertently built on in preparation for this weekend’s Eclipse Fest at Burrell Wood Bicentennial Park. Their opportunity to address council came just before adjournment, but neither spoke up.
In the business portion of the meeting, Nancy J Winter was reappointed to the Carmi Police Pension Board of Trustees for a 2 year term beginning May 1st. Council rejected the only bid submitted to paint the water tower located out by the dog park as it came in higher than the engineer’s estimate. Grant money is expected to pay for that once the city gets a bid that meets their requirements. Council did accept a bid from Wiggs Excavating for a water system improvement project. The Wiggs bid came in at $789,348, better than Kiefer Brothers bid of a little north of a million dollars. This project is part of the city’s Rebuild Illinois grant.
Mayor Pollard also provided some helpful information for anyone planning to go and enjoy the weekend festivities prior to Monday’s eclipse. Find that information below:
