The White County Christmas Nightime Lighted Parade will be held this Saturday, November 25, beginning around 5:30 p.m.
The parade line-up and start area will be a little different this year than past years. The parade will form up in the assigned order, with the front of the parade beginning at Third and Cherry Street and continuing down Third, Elm and Fourth Streets for line up.
The actual parade route will be the same as it has been in the past.
The parade will begin at Third and Cherry street and immediately turn east (left) onto Cherry Street. It will proceed east on Cherry, all the way to Main Cross. At Main Cross, the parade will turn south (right) and proceed across Main Street to Robinson Street. At Robinson, the parade will turn west (right) onto Robinson and will continue down Robinson to Santa’s House, now located at Theater Park, where the parade will conclude.
According to Carmi Chief of Police Jason Carter, all streets intersecting the parade route will be blocked beginning at 5:30 Saturday evening until the parade clears and it is safe to allow normal vehicle traffic to resume.
All intersections will be manned with Carmi Police, Carmi Auxiliary Officers and White County Sheriff’s Deputies, who will assist in ensuring safety during the event.
The public is encouraged to be aware of the temporary restrictions of streets intersecting the parade route and to adjust travel plans as needed.
Immediately following the parade, the Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place at the lot with the arrival of Santa Claus.
Chief Carter reminded people to use caution while in the area as there will be a lot of traffic and pedestrian congestion in the area following the parade.
Carter said, “we hope the public comes out to help celebrate the kick off to the Christmas season and has a safe and enjoyable time.
