The Carmi Chamber of Commerce named Brenna Russell and Ebonie Hawkins as recipients of the 2023 Carmi Chamber of Commerce Scholarship during the CWCHS Senior Awards Day on Thursday, May 11th. Each recipient will receive a one-time scholarship worth $500.
During their four years at CWCHS Brenna and Ebonie have been involved in several activities. Brenna has been active in student council, student ex-officio chamber member, National Honor Society, Maroon Platoon, cheerleading, competitive dance, White County CEO program, among a list of many other activities. After graduation Brenna plans to continue her education at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to begin her journey into the field of law, and eventually return to Carmi to open her own practice.
Ebonie has been active in the CWC Historians Club, Maroon Platoon, National Honors Society, Bulldog Organization for Women, FFA, and basketball. Ebonie plans are to attend the University of Southern Indiana and major in Social Work, and minor in Psychology, with the long-term goal of working in the field of social work assisting families and children in need financially and emotionally.
Carmi Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kelly Northcott stated, “Brenna and Ebonie were both exemplary students during their time at CWCHS. The Chamber wishes them the best in their future endeavors and look forward to hearing of their individual successes.”
The Carmi Chamber of Commerce scholarship is funded by the annual Golf Tournament. This year’s tournament is scheduled to be held on August 19, 2023.
