The 2022 junior high baseball and softball season began on Thursday as the Carmi-White County Bullpups and Lady Bullpups traveled to Mt. Vernon, Illinois to take on the Rams. Both teams came away victorious, baseball won by a final of 15-5, and softball won by a final of 13-2.
On the baseball diamond, the Bullpups combined for 9 hits, 3 by Jaxon Bradshaw, 2 by Jace Courson. Myles Barnett, Jayce Digman, Blaine Courson and Eli Mosier all had one hit a piece. The bullpen was also solid for CWC in the win after the starter, Jace Courson, allowed 4 runs in 1.2 innings of work. Travis Nausley and Myles Barnett combined for 3.1 innings while only allowing 1 hit and 1 run.
On the softball side, the Lady Bullpups put up 6 runs in the first 2 innings of play, 4 more in the 4th, and they capped it off with 3 runs in the 5th. Eva Attebury drove in 2 runs on 3 hits. Briley McAlister drove in 3 runs on 2 hits. Grace Sneed, Addie Courson, Maggie Pearce, and Emilie Hollingsworth all had one hit each.
Both teams will play host to Harrisburg on Friday (8/12). First pitch for both games is set for 4:30 PM.
