The Carmi-White County baseball and softball teams both defeated Hamilton County Thursday afternoon, baseball winning 8-3 and softball winning 7-3.
The Bulldogs struck early, scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning thanks to RBI doubles by Merrick Millhorn and Kade Stockton.
The Foxes however answered with 2 in the 2nd and one more in the 3rd to make it a 4-3 ballgame heading into the 4th inning, but a 2-run home run by Caleb Seibers extended Carmi’s lead to 6-3, and the Bulldogs never looked back.
CWC added 2 more in the 6th inning with an RBI double by Gavin Holloman plus an RBI groundout by Ty Hollingsworth. Travor Mason earned the save on the mound as Carmi held on to win 8-3 to improve to 3-4 on the year and 1-1 in the Black Diamond Conference.
Travor Mason went 1-4 at the plate with a run scored.
Caleb Seibers went 2-3 with a two-run home run and 3 runs scored.
Gavin Holloman went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Merrick Millhorn went 2-2 with 2 RBI and a run scored.
Kade Stockton went 1-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Ty Hollingsworth went 1-3 with an RBI.
Cade Allen went 1-3 with a run scored.
Gavin Holloman got the start for the Bulldogs, he went 2 innings allowing 3 runs on 7 walks, but didn’t allow a hit while striking out 3 batters. Travor Mason came in for the final 5 shut-out innings, striking out 3.
The Bulldogs will have the weekend off, they will host Mt. Vernon, Indiana on Monday at Eckerle Park.
The Lady Bulldogs were able to earn the season sweep over the Lady Foxes with a 7-3 win at Archie Brown Field. Hamilton County jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning, but the Lady Dogs answered in the home half of the inning thanks to an RBI single by Addi Elliott.
Carmi struck again in the bottom of the 3rd when Audrey Upton scored on a dropped fly ball by the Ham Co shortstop, putting the Lady Bulldogs in front 2-1.
Hamilton County was able to tie it up in the top of the 5th, but Carmi took the lead back for good in the next half inning on a two-run home run by Alayna Johnson, her 5th homer of the year. Carmi added another in that same inning on an RBI single by Kadie Simmons.
CWC scored two more in the bottom of the 6th to come away with win #4 on the year, and moving to a perfect 2-0 in the BDC.
Audrey Upton went 2-2 at the plate with 3 runs scored.
Alayna Johnson went 1-3 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI and a two-run homer.
Kassi Milligan went 1-4 with an RBI.
Caroline Simmons went 1-4 with a run scored.
Kadie Simmons went 3-3 with an RBI.
Addi Elliott went 1-3 with an RBI.
Audrey Upton was stellar on the mound once again, striking out 12 batters for the 2nd consecutive game.
The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action this Saturday when they travel to Harrisburg for a doubleheader against Harrisburg and Goreville, they will then host Flora on Tuesday.
