Arkansas Man Facing DUI and Leaving the Scene of an Accident Charges

An Arkansas man is free on bond following his arrest on multiple charges by White County Sheriff’s authorities Saturday evening.  A White County deputy was dispatched to Route 1 just north of Crossville just after 7pm in reference to an alleged hit and run.  Dispatch told the deputy the vehicle that left the scene was a southbound white 4 door SUV with Arkansas registration.  Prior to arriving on scene, a Carmi Police officer pulled over the vehicle in question.  The driver of the impacted vehicle, 24 year old Cicely Reese provided details on the accident to the deputy saying she’d passed the SUV and that the driver of the vehicle subsequently began to tailgate her.  She says he then attempted to pass, struck her vehicle, and continued on.  When the deputy made his way back to the pulled over SUV, he was identified as 54 year old Tom Kaler of Yellville, Arkansas.  He would admit to striking the vehicle and leaving the scene according to the report.  Field sobriety tests revealed Kaler had a BAC of .100.  He was then arrested and is facing charges of DUI, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Improper Lane Usage.  Dispatch ran a history on Kaler during this time and found he’s faced two previous DUI charges, one dating back to 2005 in New Mexico and a more recent one in his home state during the spring of 2021.  Kaler was arrested, booked, and afterwards released following his posting of $300 bond plus booking fee.  Kaler will be due in White County court for a first appearance on the morning of May 2nd.
