Approval of Raises and Grant at the Carmi Township

The Carmi Township met Tuesday night with a small agenda.

The Salary Committee, comprising Brad Chapman and Brian Atteberry, reached a significant decision. They proposed a 10% raise for all full-time elected officials (clerk, supervisor, assessor, road commissioner), a decision that excludes trustees. This marks the first raise for these officials in four years.

The White County senior citizens sent in a grant application. Township Supervisor Pam Deig explained the grant:

“It would support our senior meal program to provide meals to White County seniors both at home and in the congregate setting.”

The board unanimously agreed to the $2,000 grant request.

In the Township special meeting, Matt Healy with Catalyst Health Plans presented the board members with materials and proposals for health insurance. After a comprehensive comparison of other insurance quotes, the board chose Matt Healy to provide health insurance for full-time township and road employees, ensuring the best possible coverage for their staff.

Lastly, Chris McEwing, Road Commissioner, went over his report and updated the board with his OSHA review. They must add concrete barriers to their gas tanks and provide class updates for CPR and hazards. There was also talk of a storm cellar, with OSHA stating they needed a plan for tornado evacuations.

The next township meeting will be on November 19th at 6 pm.
