Carmi Kiwanis Corn Day is southeastern Illinois’ premiere festival and making it go each year requires the commitment, cooperation, and collaboration of hundreds of individuals and dozens of entities. Before the festival kicked off Thursday, Kiwanis leaders came together to give an official thanks to the more than 100 sponsors who helped raise upwards of $70,000 to make the annual homecoming a success. Nancy J Winter, chair for the fundraising committee…
“It’s true that it takes a village…Carmi and the surrounding area is the best place around to help with things like this. There’s the people who make Corn Day so special by adding events, the vendors, the food trucks, and all those people who participate in those events, and the people who just come to enjoy it all. There’s the city of Carmi employees who put in so much time and effort before, during, and after…they do things we don’t even know about. But today is time to recognize our sponsors.”
Clint Taylor, Katelyne Wolff, and Jeremy Jordan along with Winter make up the fundraising committee and are responsible for securing the copious amounts of dollars it takes to put on events, award prize money, and secure entertainment.
