Carmi Police arrested two individuals late Tuesday night on multiple charges following a traffic stop on 5th Street.
37 year old Steven M Burns of Marion and 22 year old Jacklyn S Steed of West Frankfort were taken into custody at gunpoint after arresting officers noticed a handgun on the floorboard of the vehicle. Once in custody, officers found a large amount of drugs in the vehicle.
Burns has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of weapons, possession of more than 10-30 grams of cannabis, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of hypodermic needles and syringes, possession of ammunition without a FOID card, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of weapons by a felon, and calculated criminal drug conspiracy. He is being held at the White County Jail on a bail amount of $5000.
Steed was charged with aggravated unlawful use of weapons, unlawful use of weapons by a felon, possession of more than 2.5 grams of cannabis, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and an additional charge of possession of contraband in a penal institution after bringing meth into the White County Jail. She is being held on a bail amount of $4500.
Just before 9pm Thursday, Carmi Police with the assistance of the Illinois State Police arrested 20 year old George W Yates of Carmi at his residence on Hillsdale Drive on a failure to appear warrant for driving while license suspended. Yates was transported to the White County Jail and later released after posting a $500 bond.
At 10:46pm Thursday, 33 year old Corey J Smith of Carmi was taken into custody at his residence on Oak Street on a failure to appear warrant for violation of an order of protection. Smith is being held at the White County Jail pending the post of a $500 bond.
