The Carmi-White County Boys Basketball team fell to Sparta last night at the DuQuoin Tip-Off Classic by a final score of 74-65.
The Bulldogs led 37-35 midway through the 3rd quarter, but Sparta then went on a 23-8 run to end the 3rd quarter to lead 58-45 heading into the 4th quarter. Carmi was able to get the lead down to 5 at 70-65, but Sparta held on to win it.
Despite the loss, it was a historic night for CWC senior Mitchel Edwards. Edwards scored 47 points, which breaks the CWCHS record for most points in a single game previously held by Kelly Ackerman who scored 44 points in 1985.
The Bulldogs fall to 1-1 on the year, they will face Sesser-Valier tonight in DuQuoin at 8 PM. Fans who can’t make it to tonight’s game will be able to watch and listen on 97.3 FM WRUL and the WRUL Sports YouTube Channel.
The Carmi-White County Girls Basketball team will begin conference play tonight as they travel to Hamilton County. The Lady Bulldogs are 3-2 on the year after they went 2-2 in last week’s Harrisburg Preview Tournament, finishing in 2nd Place. Carmi will then host Eldorado on Thursday.
The CWC Wrestling team will also be in action tonight, they will host Olney tonight at McDougal-Evers Gymnasium.
