The Township Supervisor detailed the 2024-2025 Township Tax Levy, which will now be displayed for twenty days at 304 South Church Street before it is adopted in December.
The tax levied totaled $737,900, including the road fund of $346,500 and the town fund of $391,400.
Township board members approved the General Assistance payment level for one adult or family to $439, which is $64 more.
Supervisor Deig explained what General Assistance is,
“General Assistance is an every-month process if they qualify every month. EA is if they come in and they’re like, it’s been a bad-you know, they just found themselves in a bad situation. They don’t really want to be on GA, which is a monthly thing, and they can’t-I mean that’s very limited in income. It’s very limited. In fact, it’s very difficult to get on GA. And when you get on GA, you also have to be part of a work program, and we put people in different areas that will, like Chris, see some of our GA clients. It goes by how many people are in the household, but it doesn’t go any higher than $439. if they bring an electric bill in for EA, and it’s $280, that’s all we pay. It’s just for any bills that maybe they need assistance with. But they can’t go over $439. It’s a one-time payment, and they can reapply every 12 months.”
The Democratic and Republican Caucuses will be held on December 3rd at 6 p.m. in the main courtroom of the White County Courthouse.
Lastly, the board approved the Hazard Mitigation Resolution.
The next Carmi Township meeting will be on December 10th at 6 PM.
