The Carmi-White County School Board met Monday night for just under half an hour for their regular monthly meeting. Scott Mareing was there and has this report…
The board approved the White County Hazard Mitigation Plan. It is over 500 pages long and must be updated every five years. With this plan, the district may be able to purchase backup generators, which they do not currently have.
In the Superintendent’s report, Jarrod Newell said Principal Appreciation Day will be celebrated this year on Friday, October 25th, and National School Bus Safety Week is October 21st to the 25th. Newell thanked district administrators and all the bus drivers and district transportation staff for the fine work they do.
2024 Illinois School Report Cards will be released at the end of this month and an update will be provided at next month’s meeting.
The district is currently evaluating its current health insurance program using Bushue Human Resources, who handles all of the district’s insurance services. A review of information and updates will be given when available.
Transportation Director Will Knight provided an update on district transportation. He said there are few major issues, thanked everyone in transportation and the board for the purchase of new vehicles, and said the district is ready for the winter sports season.
Technology Director Todd Haley said the department is in pretty good shape, chromebooks are currently being updated, desktops for teachers are now up to date, and they are looking at acquiring AI software.
Pre-K Director Amy Atteberry said the Pre-K grant is in the seventh year of a five year cycle, and they just got word they will be receiving more grant money. She also stressed that they need bus drivers to transport the kids to school.
And the Consent Agenda was approved. It includes board members estimated expense approval, as it’s estimated that the board members attending the school board conference in Chicago could be reimbursed up to $150 each for travel, meals and lodging. Hotel expenses will be paid by the district, but board members will not be reimbursed for their mileage. The district accepted $15,775 from Absher Charitable Foundation and Jefferson School received $700 from Barbara McArthy. Also approved were preliminary changes to six board policies, with final action set for next month’s meeting.
The board went into Closed Session at 7:25 pm to discuss personnel and collective negotiations.
In the closed session, the board agreed to the resignations from Rachel Attebury as the Junior High Girls Assistant Track Coach; Kevin Christie as a Bus Driver; Stacy Easley as an Individual Aide at Brownsville Attendance Center; and Tabitha Lemmons as an Assistant Cook at Washington. Approved employments include John Lamp as a High School Assistant Wrestling Coach and Libby McGill as an Individual Aide at Washington. Lastly, approvals of volunteers were Matt Rice for High School Boy’s Basketball Coach; Julia Smith for High School Girl’s Basketball; and Steven Quitugua, Brandon Smith, and Levi Sisco as Wrestling Coaches.
