White County Senior Citizens Center Makes Plea for Community Assistance

For more than 50 years, the White County Senior Citizens Center has been serving folks.  Among those services are meals, both at the center and home delivered, of which the center has provided nearly 21,000 home delivered meals this year to 190 individuals and a little over 11,000 meals at the center to 367 individuals aged 60 or older.

Executive Director for the center, Vicki Harrelson issued a release saying that while the center does receive some funding through both the state and federal government, the 501(c)3 non-profit doesn’t receive nearly enough to fully pay for all the services provided.  She cited increased costs for food, gas, and supplies as well as the increase in minimum wage along with a decrease in donations for creating the hardship.

She’s now turning to the community to request donations to help continue to provide services to seniors.  Any and all donations are tax deductible.  For more information on programs provided, financial needs, or how to help out, contact the Senior Center at 618-382-3111.

This isn’t something anyone wants to participate in. This is fraud and illegal.

Where is the fraud and what is illegal about asking for donations to keep the center open?

I meant to say that asking for donations to provide care for senior citizens is not fraud!

Davy Miller, that is an outright lie. Do you want to be sued for libel? The White County Senior Center in Carmi helps many locals with services but the most important is food, something everyone has to have. I hate to think about how many people will read your inane comment and believe it. Illinois defines defamation as any falsehood spoken or written that is meant to incite hate or contempt toward another party.
