Two individuals are dead following a head on collision in Carmi Friday afternoon. Another individual has been taken to Deaconess with what are described as serious injuries. Authorities say it happened just before 1pm near County Road 1350 North. Witnesses and authorities suggest it appears the weather could’ve played a role as a pop up thunderstorm had just fired up. Officials say it could be some time before the roadway is cleared as Illinois State Police crash reconstruction personnel are on scene. Traffic is being diverted from Highway 1 to Highway 14 to County Road 900 East to circumvent the crash site. First responders say immediately family has been notified, but aren’t releasing victim identities at this time.
