The McLeansboro City Council Talks Sewer, Library Repairs, and More

McLeansboro City Council met Tuesday night for just over an hour for their regular monthly meeting.  Scott Mareing was there and has this report…

Sean Klingner of Klingner and Associates spoke to the board members about the sewer project.  They have maps of and a detailed record of every sewer line in town.  He noted that some of the sewer pipes weren’t installed well.  Klingner will meet with the appropriate committees next Tuesday to get the project rolling.  Everything needs to be in place by at least next February as work needs to be completed in about a year from now.

John Perryman spoke to the board about getting money from the city for the repairs of gutters and the front porch at the McCoy Library and a contribution for a new P.A. system for the Kiwanis to be located at the Hamilton County Courthouse.  Later in the meeting, the board approved paying for the library repairs with TIF funds and agreed to donate $1,000 to Kiwanis.

The Consent Agenda was approved, which included approval of the Zoning report, as the owner of the property at 305 Olive Street paid their back taxes and will clean up the land and remove the building on it  at no cost to the city; the city fireworks will take place on Thursday, July 4th at dusk, with a rain date of July 5th; and Mayoral appointments Fiscal Year 2025 will remain the same as last year.

In the Police report, the new officer will graduate from the academy in August.  They were awarded two grants for ballistic shields and have applied for a grant for four new tasers.

In the Fire Department report, an illegal burn and a fire on East Main Street were put out.  They also received two grants to be used for various equipment and four of their men have signed up to be cerfitied.

An ordinance was approved to set up a K-9 Fund.

Triple G Lawn Care was awarded a three year contract extension with the city for mowing.

And the board approved allowing the Girl Scouts to have an overnight camp with tent camping at Kiwanis Park on July 26th and 27th.

The board adjourned at 6:36 PM.
