In a release from the White County Supervisor of Assessments office, officials say they’re in the process of finalizing their portion of the 2023 tax cycle. Letters have been mailed to property owners reflecting any changes that may have been made to their properties.
The release indicates that due to the surge in the real estate market between 2020 and 2022, White County will have a 1.1181 equalization factor assessed to property values excluding farms and minerals. A change doesn’t necessarily mean property tax bills will increase or decrease. The release says “tax bills are determined by local taxing bodies when they request money each year to provide services to local citizens”. If the amount requested by local taxing bodies isn’t greater than the amount received in the previous year, total property taxes don’t increase even if assessments increase.
