A suspect is in jail in Mount Vernon following a shooting late Christmas Eve. City officials say a suspect shot another person on South Ninth Street shortly after midnight Christmas Eve. The suspect is identified as 20-year-old Maliq Petties. He fled the scene and led officers on a chase that reached speeds up to 100 miles an hour in Mount Vernon before his car was disabled and he was captured. Two officers were taken to a hospital and released. The victim in the shooting is hospitalized for their wounds. Petties faces charges ranging from aggravated battery to armed violence.
