As Close As It Gets – Bulldog Wrestlers Defeat Robinson in Nail-biter

The Carmi-White County Bulldogs have had their fair share of close matches that have come down to the wire as of late, and their roadtrip to Robinson on Wednesday was no different – well, it definitely had a “different” ending.

The Bulldogs received forfeits for Travor Mason in the 113 weight class and Conner Benham in the 120 weight class.

Kale Wiggins pinned his opponent in the 138 weigh class in 3:25.
Caleb Seibers pinned his opponent in 3:15 in the 175 weight class.
Nelson Rider pinned his opponent in the 190 weight class in 1:12.
Gavin Peyton pinned his opponent in the 285 weight class in just 41 seconds.

With those wins, the match ended in a 42-42 tie. However, unlike the NFL, a high school wrestling match cannot end in a tie.

As explained by head coach Terry Gholson, there is a list of criteria that is gone through at the end of a tied match to determine the winner.

Criteria #1 being the team who received the most forfeits, and that was Carmi-White County.

Therefore, the Bulldogs were given 3 points and the 45-42 victory.

Carmi improves to 5-4 on the year, they will have one more match before Chirstmas break as they travel to Lawrenceville on Monday.
