Christmas Bonuses Stay the Same for Carmi Employees

City of Carmi employees will get their standard Christmas bonus this year.

Alderwoman Lacey Bradshaw balked at the standard at the first November meeting of the Carmi City Council, saying she thought it should be at least $100 plus $5 or $10 per year of longevity on top of that.

Council ultimately tabled the idea at the last meeting to see what the financial impact would be. Tuesday night, we didn’t get that information.

Mayor Jeff Pollard explained, “There wasn’t really anything in the packet because Cynthia (City Clerk) and I kinda went through everything the next day and was looking at different aspects and talking about different things. Timeline wise, we really don’t have the time to be able to change what we’ve been doing so we’re thinking it would be better off if we just give them what they’ve been given in the past. And then if we want to make some adjustments, because I think the wording need to be a little bit…with them being union…the wording needs to be a little bit with their longevity close to what the wording is in their contract. So there’s different options we were looking at…a little higher base and then changing the bumps so that’s kind of why we left it the way it was. And then we can look after the first of the year, see what we want to do with it and get it in the budget.”

The motion passed with Bradshaw voting no.

The next city council meeting for Carmi is coming up on Tuesday, December 5th.

What’s a bonus? I got a pay cut at work. But yet the city wants to raise property taxes along with everything else
