The Carmi-White County boys basketball team defeated Gallatin County last night to tip off the 2023 season by a final score of 44-43.

To say the end of the game was crazy would be an understatement. Carmi held a 44-41 lead with 15 seconds left, when Gallatin County’s Noah Richardson seemed to make a game-tying three point shot with 10 seconds left. Carmi missed what they thought would’ve been a game-winning shot on the other end – but then the officials clarified that Richardson’s foot was on the line, ending the game with a one-point win for the Bulldogs.

Mitchel Edwards led the Bulldogs in scoring with 23 points.
Landon Driscoll and Gavin Holloman both scored 10 points.
Trey Dixon scored 1.

Carmi begins the season 1-0. They will have the rest of the week off and they will begin play in the DuQuoin Tip-Off Classic on Monday when they battle Sparta.

The Carmi-White County girls basketball team defeated West Frankfort last night 62-39 at the Harrisburg Preview tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs were led in scoring by Caroline Simmons who scored 23, Mara Serafini scored 19.

Carmi will take on Harrisburg tonight, a game that could potentially be the championship of the tournament. Both teams are 2-0. Fans can listen to tonight’s game on 97.3 FM WRUL and online at WRUL.com. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM.
