(Springfield, IL) — The University of Illinois Springfield Alliance for Experiential Problem-Based Learning is being awarded a nearly 700-thousand-dollar federal grant. The funding will be used to develop tolerance, diversity and anti-bias training for law enforcement. The grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.
(Daleville, IN) — Two adults have been killed in a crash on Interstate 69 in Daleville early Sunday morning. Indiana State Police say they were 32-year-old Victoria Cox and 26-year-old Evan Cox of Fort Wayne. They were in a Chevrolet Malibu that was hit head-on by a Kia Forte that was heading north in the southbound lanes of the highway. The Kia was driven by 30-year-old Walter Saucedo-Mendoza of Indianapolis, who is hospitalized with his injuries. He also hit a semi and a Volkswagen hit the Kia engine.
(Greenfield, IN) — State Representative Bob Cherry says he is not seeking another term. The Greenfield Republican first won the office in 1998 and says in his nearly 25 years in office, the state’s budget deficits have been erased and replaced with “structurally balanced budgets with health reserves.” Cherry is one of three state lawmakers to announce they were done this fall, with the other two already resigning.
(Frankfort, KY) — Thousands of acres continue to burn as Kentucky remains in a State of Emergency. Several wildfires have been reported in the eastern part of the state over the last few days. Kentucky.com reports at least a dozen counties have burn bans in place due to dry conditions. The State of Emergency allows the Governor to draw help from the National Guard and Emergency Management. Fire crews have also responded from other states including Oregon, Utah and Idaho.
(Louisville, KY) — The Ultimate Bourbon Auction is now live courtesy of Kroger. The grocery store chain is hosting the 3rd annual online event in support of Kroger’s Zero Hunger Zero Waste Plan to end hunger. The auction will remain open until November 19th. Bottles being auctioned off include Pappy Van Winkle, Heaven Hill, Maker’s Mark and several others. Raffle tickets for the auction range from twenty-five to one-hundred-dollars. Proceeds benefit food banks feeding Kentucky.
(Decatur, IL) — An African wild cat that was on the loose in Decatur is in custody. The Macon County Animal Control and Care Center says a Serval was captured Saturday between Forsyth and Maroa. The serval has been on the loose since last month. It will remain in the custody of Animal Control while legal issues regarding it’s possession are addressed. The animal won’t be euthanized.
