Local Sports Recap – November 13, 2023

Congratulations to Chris Lucas and the Carmi-White County Lady Bulldog Volleyball team for placing 4th at the IHSA State Finals over the weekend.

Carmi-White County faced off against the number 1 team in the state in Friday’s semifinal in Immaculate Conception Catholic out of Chicago. Carmi fell 25-5 and 25-16. That loss sent Carmi to the 3rd Place match where they faced Rock Falls, and fell in 3 sets 27-25, 21-25, 25-14. 

The Lady Bulldogs end their historic season with the most wins in a single season in school history with a 33-9 record, a regional championship, the school’s first ever sectional championship, the school’s first ever super-sectional championship and now a 4th Place Trophy in Class 2A. 

Congratulations to the Lady Bulldogs on an outstanding season. 

In other action from this weekend’s volleyball state finals;
Gelena defeated Hartsburg in 2 sets in the 1A State Championship.
Breese Mater Dei defeated IC Catholic in 2 sets in the 2A State Championship.
St. Francis Wheaton defeated Lincoln in 3 sets in the 3A State Championship.
Chicago Mother McAuley defeated Benet Academy in 3 sets in the 4A State Championship.

Looking at scores from quarterfinal round of the IHSA Football Playoffs from this past weekend;

In 1A, Sesser-Valier fell to Greenfield 44-16.
In 2A, Nashville fell to Athens 28-27, Shelbyville defeated Breese Mater Dei 28-21.
In 3A, Mt. Carmel defeated Tolono-Unity 56-46.
In 4A, Murphysboro defeated Harrisburg with a touchdown on the final play of the game, 25-20.
