An Illinois man is behind bars in Indiana after State Police caught him allegedly driving 81 through a school zone. An Indiana State Trooper was patrolling the school zone at Marrs Elementary on SR 62 when he pulled over 34 year old Jerome Abernathy of Crete for driving over 80 miles per hour in the posted 45 mile per hour zone and nearly colliding into the rear of another vehicle. The trooper says Abernathy was displaying signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests. It would eventually be revealed he had a blood alcohol content of .16%. Abernathy is currently behind bars in the Posey County Jail and has been charged with Operating a Vehicle while Intoxicated with a prior conviction as well as a Class C Misdemeanor of Reckless Driving.
