A 35 year old Carmi man chose jail Tuesday night. Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a Stewart Street home just before 9:30 where they spoke with Tammy Gaudern who was sitting on the porch. Gaudern said 35 year old Matthew Gaudern had been living with her over the last 6 – 8 months but that he had come to his grandmothers on Stewart Street residence this morning. She would also go on to say according ot the report that Matthew had nowhere to go, but that he wasn’t wanted at the grandmothers home. After making contact with the grandmother, the report says she was visibly upset and stressed and stated she couldn’t handle the stress and wanted him gone. Officers then spoke with Matthew Gaudern who said he was on probation and had nowhere else to go. Law enforcement provided multiple opportunities for Gaudern to leave. He ultimately stuck his hands out to be cuffed and was placed under arrest for Criminal Trespass to a Residence. Gaudern was arrested in February of this year on a Misdemeanor Assault charge and subsequently given 2 years of conditional discharge and a 30 day stayed jail term. He appeared before Judge Webb Wednesday morning on the new Class 4 Felony Criminal Trespass charge. A preliminary hearing has been set for September 13th.
