The Carmi-White County Bulldog baseball team defeated Herrin yesterday by a final score of 7-5.
The Dogs fell behind early, trailing 3-0 after the first inning, but Carmi scored 2 in the 3rd and 1 in the 4th, tying the game at 3-3.
Herrin re-took the lead by scoring twice in the bottom of the 5th inning, but the Bulldogs answered with one in the 6th. Herrin still led 5-4 heading into the 7th.
CWC tied the game in the top of the 7th on an RBI by Merick Millhorn that plated Caleb Seibers, evening the score at 5-5 but the Dogs weren’t done. Two batters later, Millhorn scored on a wild pitch, and Trayton Vickers brought in another with an RBI single that scored Tyson Spicer. The Bulldogs led 7-5 and they would go on to win by that score.
Landon Driscoll went the distance on the mound once again, giving up 5 runs, only 2 of those earned, on 7 hits with 0 walks and 3 strikeouts.
The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season with a 12-14 record. They will begin regional play next Wednesday at home against Mt. Carmel at 6 PM.
The CWC Boys tennis team defeated Mt. Vernon yesterday 6-3. The win improves the Bulldogs’ record to 17-3-1 on the year, tying them for the most wins in a season in school history. They will wrap up their regular season at home against Marion this afternoon. A win for CWC would break the record for most wins in a season in school history.
The CWC Girls Track team is also in action today, they will be running at the DuQuoin sectional.
