Local Sports Recap – April 17, 2023

The Carmi-White County Bulldog baseball team split a doubleheader at Benton on Saturday, defeating Goreville 10-1 and falling to Benton 12-9.

In the Game 1 win, the Bulldogs scored 10 runs on just 5 hits.
Travor Mason went 2-4 with 3 runs scored.
Gavin Holloman went 1-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Trayton Vickers went 1-4 with an RBI.
Landon Driscoll went 1-4 with a run scored.
Zack Roark pitched a complete game, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits and 3 walks with 9 strikeouts. 

In Game 2, the Bulldogs led Benton 7-3 going into the 3rd inning, but the Rangers would score once in the 3rd, 4 times in the 4th, 3 in the 6th and 1 in the 7th to defeat Carmi 12-9.
Mason went 2-3 with 3 runs scored.
Holloman went 1-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored.
Caleb Seibers went 2-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.
Mitchel Edwards went 1-2.
Cade Allen and Tyson Spicer also scored runs in the loss. 

The Bulldogs’ record now stands at 4-9 on the year, they will host Edwards County tomorrow at Eckerle Park. That game can be heard on 97.3 FM WRUL.

The Carmi-White County Lady Bulldog softball team fell to Herrin on Saturday by a final score of 6-3. The game was called after 5 ½ innings due to weather. 

The Lady Dogs combined for only 3 hits in the loss, those came from Mia Evans, Kadie Simmons and Alexa Knight. 

Carmi falls to 7-6 on the year, and they will also host Edwards County tomorrow.

The CWC Boys and Girls track teams will be in action today, the boys to travel to Hamilton County and the girls will travel to Benton.
