With rain in the forecast, area rivers are headed back outside their banks. The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings throughout the region with moderate flooding expected. The Little Wabash at Carmi is currently forecast to reach 34 feet by 7pm next Wednesday, March 29th. Flood stage is 27 feet. The river will rise above it’s banks Saturday evening.
Flood stage at New Harmony is 15 feet. The Wabash River is expected to swell to 19.7 feet by Saturday, April 1st. It should usurp it’s banks on Sunday evening.
Upstream at Mt. Carmel, the Wabash will climb more than 7 feet above it’s banks by next Friday, March 31st. Flood stage is 19 feet and it’s currently forecast to hit 26.6 feet.
Similarly, the Ohio River at Shawneetown is expected to clear it’s banks by more than 6 feet by next Friday morning. Flood stage there is 33 feet. The Ohio is forecast to hit 39.2 feet.
