Carmi White County School Board Accepts Five Resignations

The Carmi White County School Board held their monthly meeting for about half an hour Monday night.  Scott Mareing was there and has this report…

The Consent Agenda was approved, which included renewing membership in the IHSA so schools can participate in athletic and musical events; final approval was given on adoption of a board policy concerning School Wellness; and five resignations were accepted: Sharon Mayberry as a Special Education Classroom Aide at Brownsville School effective March 3rd, Hannah Roe-Gottman as a Vocational Teacher at Carmi-White County High School effective March 17th, Rachel Mcgarrh as a Carmi-White County Science Teacher effective March 31st; and Griffin Hart as a Special Education Teacher at Brownsville School and Brittany Cox as the Carmi-White County Elementary Music Teacher, both effective at the end of the 2022-23 school year.

In the Superintendent’s Report, Jarrod Newell said the spring musical “Back to the ‘80s” will be performed by the CWCHS Fine Arts Department on March 24th to 26th.  Students and staff will be on spring break from April 3rd to the 7th.  All students are qualified for the Affordability Connectivity Plan, which is a federal government program that offers eligible households $30 a month toward the cost of home internet services.  All students in the district qualify and will be sent home a letter with instructions on how to apply online for this benefit.  Students in 3rd to 8th grades that qualified for the High Impact Tutoring Program have been receiving services provided by district staff after school and will now provide services during the summer and for the 2023-24 school year.  Lincoln and Jefferson schools will hold the Summer School Bridge Program August 1st to August 10th for incoming students to provide support and help them to transition into the school year.  On March 15th the CWCHS ACES Academic Team competed and finished third at ACES Sectionals at SIU Carbondale.  They will advance and compete at Eastern Illinois University in April.  Students in grades 3 to 8 will be taking the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) state test from March 20th to the 31st in ELA and Math.  9th to 11th graders will be taking the PSAT and SAT on April 12th.  School Resource Officer David Agee recently spoke at Kiwanis to share the positive impact he makes each day in our district.  And each individual building gave their Good News reports.

Board President Kent “Pete” Fulkerson read a brief statement saying a committee was appointed last year by the board to look into improvements or replacements for the district buildings.  Two board members wanted to see what they had recommended, but they were NOT on the committee, so therefore there was no violation of the Open Meetings Act.

There were no public communications with the Board, so the board went into Closed Session at 7:32 PM to discuss Personnel/Security Procedures, School Building Safety and Security, and the Use of Personnel
