The affable Officer David Agee has jokes. It’s nearly a job requirement considering, as the School Resource Officer for Carmi-White County Unit 5, he deals with a range of ages and temperaments from Pre-K to parents. He spoke Thursday at the weekly Carmi Kiwanis Club meeting.
Officer Agee hails from Enfield, graduated high school at NCOE in 2001, and his education continued at Rend Lake College and eventually SIU-C with some military service scattered in between college stints. Through and after school, Agee interned with the White County Sheriff’s Department before taking a role with the Carmi PD and eventually as the SRO for Carmi-White County Unit 5.
Agee says the first year of the SRO program was a real learning curve for both the officer and the district as they explored and learned who should take the lead on which circumstances, whether it should be the officer or administrators and communication between those individuals. Things got better quickly though.
So what does an average day look like for the Unit 5 SRO? Remember, Agee’s got jokes.
Superintendent Jarrod Newell says Agee has been an important resource for the school and it’s students.
In Carmi Kiwanis Club news, the club has announced Pancake Day will be on June 10th this year. The organization is also planning a Father/Daughter dance at the 404 Seed Station on April 29th. Kiwanis has also made donations of $100 each to the St. Jude Putt Pub Crawl and to the CWCHS Junior Prom.
Coming up next Thursday, students and director Sherry Passmore will descend on the White County Farm Bureau basement to preview their Back to the 80’s show coming up on March 25th and 26th at 7:30pm as well as March 27th at 2:30pm.
