The Carmi-White County Bulldog basketball team picked up two big wins over the weekend, defeating Fairfield 54-33 on Friday night, and taking down Anna-Jonesboro 60-40 on Saturday in the opening round of the IHSA 2A regional tournament.
In Saturday’s game, the Bulldogs led 25-22 at the half, and they would outscore the Wildcats 35-18 in the 2nd half, which included outscoring AJ 18-2 in the 3rd quarter alone.
The win improves Carmi’s record to 25-5 on the season, as the Bulldogs compiled a 15-0 record at McDougal-Evers Gymnasium. This year’s Bulldogs are the first team since 1987 to go unbeaten at home through a whole season, and those 15 home wins is a new school record for the most in a season.
The Bulldogs will now advance to face Vienna on Wednesday in Harrisburg in the regional semifinals. A win for Carmi will put them in their first regional championship game since 2019.
