Two Sentenced To The Illinois Department Of Corrections

Two more area residents have been sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The first was on Wednesday, as 32 year old Tiffany A, Downs of Grayville was sentenced to seven years with one year Mandatory Supervised Release for Residential Burglary, a class 1 felony.  Downs was arrested by Carmi Police following their investigation of a residential burglary in Carmi in August 2022.  Downs was also ordered to pay court costs and restitution.  She was prosecuted by White County State’s Attorney Denton Aud.  Judge T. Scott Webb was the presiding judge.

Then on Thursday, Seth R. Howard, 22, of Carmi was sentenced at the end of a contested sentencing hearing that lasted all afternoon.   Howard will spend a total of eight years in the IDOC with two years of MSR and receive four years probation, after being sentenced on three Child Pornography counts, all class 2 felonies, which are to be served consecutively.  Howard was arrested in March of 2020 following an investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task force.  He pled guilty in September of 2022 to three offenses of possession child pornography videos of children under the age of 13.  He was also ordered to make a contribution to the Guardian Center of $500 and complete sex offender treatment.  Howard was represented by defense attorney Terry Green out of West Frankfort, who asked the judge to sentence Howard to only probation.  State’s Attorney Denton Aud prosecuted the case and asked that Howard be sentenced to 18 years.  Following argument of counsel, Judge T. Scott Webb sentenced Howard to the eight years in prison with the consecutive four years of probation.
