Local Sports Recap – January 13, 2023

Last night the Carmi-White County Lady Bulldog basketball team lost a heartbreaker at Eldorado by a final score of 58-55 in overtime. Mara Serafini led Carmi in scoring with 22 points, Caroline Simmons scored 14, Ashlyn Rager scored 6, Ebonie Hawks and Shemaine Lovell both scored 4, Lily Pollard scored 3 and Johanna Smith scored 1. Carmi falls to 7-13 on the year and 0-6 in the BDC. They will begin play in the Lady Eagle Classic in Eldorado on Saturday at 10 AM when they face off against Goreville. 

Tonight the Carmi-White County boys basketball team will travel to Fairfield to face the Mules in a big Black Diamond Conference matchup. Carmi is 12-4 on the season and 4-0 in the BDC, meanwhile Fairfield is 6-11 on the campaign with a 1-3 conference record, but the Mules have played some good basketball as of late and Kevin Wolff knows his squad will have to come ready to play.

Varsity will tip-off around 7:30, you can listen to the game on 97.3 FM WRUL or you can watch the game on the WRUL Sports YouTube Channel. The Bulldogs look to defeat the Mules for the first time since the 2017-2018 season. 

Tomorrow the Bulldog wrestling team will host the Carmi Varsity Tournament tomorrow at Washington School beginning at 9 AM, they will then host a fresh/soph tournament on Monday. The wrestling team picked up a big win over Mt. Carmel, 54-30 on Wednesday.
