Local Sports Recap – January 6, 2023

Last night the Carmi-White County girls basketball team fell at home to Edwards County by a final score of 59-46. Mara Serfini led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 16 points. Caroline Simmons scored 10, Lily Pollard scored 9, Shemaine Lovell scored 7 and Johanna Smith scored 4. The Lady Dogs fall to 6-12 on the season and 0-5 in the Black Diamond Conference. They will travel to Hardin County on Tuesday. 

The Carmi-White County Bulldog wrestling team defeated Pinckneyville last night on the road by a final of 60-12. 5 different Bulldogs received forfeits in their weight classes, those being Madden Anderson in 106, Travor Mason in 113, Matthew Wilson in 120, Dylan Ackerman in 132 and Layne Gwaltney in 152. Caleb Seibers pinned his opponent in the 160 weight class in just 10 seconds. Jaxon Staton pinned his opponent in the 17 weight class in 2:58. Isaac King pinned his opponent in the 182 weight class in 2:57. Nelson Rider pinned his opponent in the 195 weight class in 1:14 and Konner Buchanan pinned his opponent in the 220 weight class in just 36 seconds. The Bulldog wrestlers will travel to Mt. Carmel on Wednesday.

Tonight the CWC boys basketball team will host Eldorado at McDougal-Evers Gymnasium for a big BDC clash. The Bulldogs are 9-4 on the season, standing atop the BDC East with a 2-0 conference record. Meanwhile Eldorado is 7-7 on the campaign with a 2-1 conference record. Kevin Wolff’s squad saw this Eagle team just 10 days ago when Eldorado took down the Bulldogs 49-37 in the EHT quarterfinals. 

Varsity will tip-off around 7:30. For fans who can’t attend, they can listen to all the action on 97.3 WRUL or they can watch the game on the WRUL Sports YouTube Channel. 

At halftime of tonight’s game, Carmi-White County High School will recognize the 1993 Bulldog Baseball team that finished 3rd in the IHSA state tournament. This spring will mark the 30-year anniversary of that historic season. Fans will also be able to watch the ceremony on the WRUL Sports YouTube Channel.
