The Carmi-White County Lady Bulldog volleyball team will begin regional play in the Mt. Carmel against the host Lady Aces at 7 PM. Mount Carmel is the 5 seed, they defeated 10 seeded Harrisburg last night in 2 sets. The Lady Dogs have played Mt. Carmel twice this season, winning the first match back on August 22nd and losing to them in the Edwards County tournament on October 15. If Carmi wins tonight, they will play the winner of Hamilton County and Benton who also play tonight.
This Saturday the Carmi football team will host the Athens Warriors in the first round of the IHSA Football playoffs. Athens plays in the Sangamo conference, which is historically one of the toughest in the state. The Warriors are 7-2, with their two losses coming against Williamsville who is the #7 team in 3A, and Maroa-Forsyth who is the #2 team in 2A. This will be the 4th time in the past 7 years that Athens has played a Black Diamond Conference team in the playoffs. Last year, they defeated Sesser-Valier in the 2nd round of the 1A playoffs. They defeated Eldorado on the road both in 2015 and 2018.
