Local Sports Recap – September 9, 2022

The Carmi-White County Volleyball team took home 2nd place in this year’s NCOE Tournament, winning 3 of their 4 matches. The Lady Bulldogs took down Hamilton County in their first match last night in two thrilling sets, 25-21 and 30-28. That set up the championship match between Carmi-White County and NCOE, and the Fighting Cardinals got the best of the Lady Bulldogs. Winning in two sets, 25-19 and 25-19. The win gave NCOE the tournament championship, and it also gave NCOE head coach Jaclyn Melton the 400th win in her coaching career. CWC freshman Caroline Simmons was named to the all-tournament team. The Lady Bulldogs have a short turnaround, they will take part in the Benton Tournament tomorrow.

The Girls Tennis team defeated Fairfield on the road yesterday 6-1. The JV squad also defeated the Lady Mules, 3-1. Girls Tennis will play in the Herrin Invitational tomorrow.

It was a rough afternoon for the CWC Boys Golf team yesterday in West Frankfort. The Bulldogs fell 169-196. Maxon O’Daniel shot a team best 47. Zack Roark shot a 48, Gabe Winkleman shot a 50, Gage Atteberry shot a 51, Connor Newell a 52, Aidon Willis a 53 and Travor Mason shot a 59. The Boys golf team will take part in the Benton Invitational tomorrow. 

The CWC Junior Pro Football teams will also be in action tomorrow as they travel to Eldorado. 5th and 6th grade will play at 5 PM with 7th and 8th grade to follow. 

Later on today the Junior High baseball and softball teams will play at Massac County.
