A Dozen New Educators Introduced at Kiwanis Thursday

There are 238 certified and support staff employed by Carmi White County Unit 5 for the 2022/2023 year; among them are a dozen new staff members introduced at the Kiwanis meeting Thursday.  New CWC Unit 5 Superintendent Jarrod Newell opened the meeting by saying it feels a lot more normal than the last few years.

Introduced by their individual building principals from the high school, junior high, Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln were 12 new staff members.  Among them include:  Jessica Bailey, originally from Fairfield, is in her 9th year teaching and is teaching English/Language Arts at the high school

John Lamp, a 2015 graduate from CWCHS, is teaching Ag at the high school

Rachel Mcgarrh, a Danville native, entering her 1st year in education and former Air Force member, is teaching Science at the high school

Kami Pollard, another 2015 graduate from CWCHS is teaching math at the high school after spending 2 years at Hardin County

Grace Sinclair, a 2018 CWCHS graduate and recent Evansville University graduate, takes the reins for Band/Choir

Lynn Simms enters her 24th year in education and is the new Family Consumer Science teacher at the junior high

Marc Stendeback, a CWCHS alum, has spent the last 11 years at Grayville and comes home to CWCJH as the 7th Grade Social Studies teacher

Nicole Bonan joins Washington Attendance Center as a Pre-K teacher; she’s originally from Benton

Drew Vaupel has been at Fairfield the last 12 years and joins the team at Washington as a Counselor

Cassie Hutchcraft, a 2003 graduate of CWCHS, and former teacher at Hamilton County joins the Jefferson staff

Jessica Fishback joins Lincoln as a Special Education Kindergarten teacher

Karen Kays, a 4th generation Carmi White County teacher and 2017 graduate of CWCHS joins the district as a 1st grade teacher

Brownsville has no new educators this year.  Newell says this year there are 1,316 students within the district, 20 fewer than last year.  The Carmi Kiwanis Club also awards the annual Teacher of the Year award each spring.
