The Carmi Rotary Club Covered Upcoming Events During Their Weekly Meeting

The Carmi Rotary club kicked off September with an informal meeting without a scheduled speaker. The club focused on discussing upcoming events, such as the trivia contest, which is being moved up slightly this year, to Saturday, October 22nd.

As in year’s past, the contest will focus on several categories, such as history, sports, pop culture, the Bible, food, and many more. There are four rounds, with ten questions in each round. Food is provided by the Rotarians, and the cost for entry is only $40 for a four-person team. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three teams, but a good time is had by all.

Please mark your calendar for Saturday, October 22nd. The contest will be held at the American Legion on Oak Street in Carmi. The first question gets asked at 6:00pm.

Rotary secretary Patty Mills reported back to the club about her recent attendance at a Rotary district workshop. This event focused on membership retention and growth, and Patty came back with several handouts for the club to look at and possibly try.

President Patrick Haskel handed out flyers for next year’s Old Tyme Arts and Crafts show at Beall’s Woods. This year’s event was a big success, and they hope to build on that for next year. The outdoor festival will be held on May 6th and 7th with many more details to follow.

President Patrick also had a big announcement, that on Thursday, September 15th, the president of Vincennes University will be on hand as the club’s guest speaker. Anyone who is interested in hearing this sure-to-be interesting talk should make plans to be at that meeting.

Finally, the club set a tentative date of November 11th for the first sit-down chili supper in the past few years. More details will be worked out and finalized over the next few weeks.

Cindy Conley won the 50/50 drawing and managed to capture the cash prize for the day. JR Hubele was named the day’s phantom.

The Carmi Rotary club meets every Thursday at noon at the First United Methodist Church on Main Street in Carmi. Anyone wishing to learn more about this civic organization is welcome to attend a meeting or speak with any Carmi Rotarian.
