A Carmi man was sentenced Thursday to a total of ten years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Five years each for possession of methamphetamine, a class 3 felony, and retail theft, a class 4 felony.
33 year old Nickolas A. Hayes was placed on probation in May of 2021 from a retail theft case that occurred in Grayville, and was investigated by the Grayville Police Department. Hayes was arrested following the execution of a search warrant by the Carmi Police Department and assisted by the White County Sheriff’s Department in October of 2021, for being in possession of meth. His new charges ultimately led to his probation sentence being revoked and in him pleading guilty to the new charges, with the five year sentences being entered Thursday.
Hayes was represented by Jonathan Turpin. State’s Attorney Denton Aud prosecuted the case. Judge T. Scott Webb was the presiding judge that imposed the sentences.
