A Fairfield man has been cited for Scott’s law after failing to slow down or move over while an Officer with the White County Sheriff’s Department was conducting a traffic stop. On Monday, June 27th at around 10 PM, Deputy Wicker was conducting the traffic stop when 28 year old Jesus Guzman of 403 E Curry Street in Fairfield passed the officer without using caution. Deputy wicker noted that there were no cars in the oncoming lane. Wicker then cleared the current traffic stop he was on and pulled over the gray Infinity that Guzman was driving. Wicker made contact with the driver and explained the reason for the stop. The Deputy told Guzman that in Illinois you are required to slow down or move over when an emergency vehicle is on the side of the road while using visual signals. Jesus Guzman advised Wicker that he didn’t have a driver’s license. Jesus stated that he has never had license. When Wicker ran Guzman’s name through dispatch it came back with no record on file. Deputy Wicker then collected the information on the front seat passenger, 22 year old Ashley Collins of the same address. When her information was run through dispatch, it came back that she was wanted on a Wayne County warrant for Failure to Appear. Both occupants were taken into custody and transported to the White County Jail. Jesus was also cited for no Valid Driver’s License. Bond for both Guzman and Collins was set at $250. They paid bond and was released.
