The Norris City Village Board held their regular monthly meeting Monday night at the Village Hall. Scott Mareing was there and has this report…
Ed Oliver, representing the Sons of the American Revolution, along with their Treasurer Dr. Patrick Haskell, presented the board with a “certificate of patriotism” to Norris City. During the 150th Anniversary Celebration parade through the city, it was noticed that almost everyone in attendance lining the streets saluted or put their hands over their hearts while the American flag was being carried down the street. They were so struck by this show of support for our country that they decided to present this certificate to the city, something they rarely do.
Danny Woolsey talked with All-State about insurance for Norris City employees and their offer was higher than the current deal the village has with Blue Cross/Blue Shield, so the board decided to stay where they are.
The Rusty Bucket’s TIF request is still under advisement.
The renewal of Kelly’s Quick Stop liquor license was approved.
Mayor Skip Land said there is still $11,000 in TIF money available for sidewalk repair.
The village owns the lot on 508 North Division Street and also pays taxes on it, but they don’t do anything with it, so the Mayor will get together with Village Attorney Nathan Rowland to sell it off.
They recently purchased a new 4X4 ATV to replace the old mower, which will be sold off, but they will keep the blades and spreader from it for use at the ball fields and to spread salt on the roads in winter.
Progress on fixing up the ball fields is slow due to rainy weather, for the season that starts on May 31st. They’re also looking at getting signs to place around town giving directions to the ball fields, as well as purchase cameras and concrete blocks. Grants are being obtained for playground equipment. Mayor Land said there is $20,000 in the new Parks and Rec Department account.
The old oak tree near the swimming pool will be cut down, as it’s dead and could be a hazard.
Katie Noel was approved as an IMRF, or Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund, agent.
The levee will be repaired and painted next month.
Mayor Land filed a complaint with the Egyptian Health Department declaring the residence at 308 North East Street as a health hazard, so the people living there said they’d fix it up. Land will give an update to the board members at next month’s meeting.
The 2022 Census report and the NEU, or New Entitlement Unit, grant money report have both been filed.
The village still hasn’t been able to find a part-time Police Officer.
The board reinforced the Orchard Street extension’s designation as the official place for township deliveries.
Several ordinances have to be codified, or put in an orderly formal code.
Katie Noel was approved as an officer manager to help with things when the Mayor is not available.
City Wide Clean-up will be from May 9th to the 13th and the City-Wide Rummage Sale will be on May 6th and 7th.
In the Police Report for April there were ten reports written, two arrests made, three citations issued, and there were nine 9-1-1 calls. Kody Jones successfully passed his power test and will be going to training on May 4th.
The meeting adjourned at 8 PM. The next board meeting will be held on Monday, June 6th at 7 PM at City Hall.
