A Carmi man was sentenced Wednesday morning to over a dozen years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. 39 year old Jesse G. Stephens of Carmi received twelve years and six months for residential burglary, a Class 1 felony, along with one year of Mandatory Supervised Release. He had previously been allowed to be on Drug Court in this case. However, Stephens was ultimately unsuccessfully discharged from Drug Court and arrested on new charges that are currently pending. He was set for resentencing Wednesday after being found to have violated Drug Court probation. Stephens was originally arrested by the Carmi Police Department in April of 2021. Jesse Stephens was represented by Public Defender Brian Shinkle and Judge T. Scott Webb was the presiding judge that entered the sentence.
