A Carmi man has been sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections. On Wednesday, 36 year old Jason K Ballard learned he will be spending the next 10 years in the DOC followed by 4 years of parole for Domestic Battery and Driving While License Revoked. Ballard was given 6 years for the Domestic Battery charge, 4 years for the DWLR and 4 years for DWLR, all which are Class 4 felony’s.
The sentences in the Driving While License Revoked cases were ordered to run concurrently; however, they were ordered to run consecutively to the sentence imposed in the Domestic Battery case (the maximum amount allowed for that offense), which means that the defendant was ultimately sentenced to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with 4 years of parole. Carmi Police Department was the arresting agency in the Domestic Battery case (in January 2022) and one of the DWLR cases (in December 2020) with the Crossville Police Department being the investigating agency in the other DWLR case (occurring in October 2020). There were various other cases and charges, primarily driving related offenses that were dismissed pursuant to the defendant agreeing to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Attorney Jonathan Turpin represented Ballard. Judge T. Scott Webb was the presiding judge.
