The Norris City Village Board held its regular monthly meeting Monday night. Scott Mareing was there and has this report…
After several months of discussions and efforts to acquire the White County Ambulance building, the board decided it would not be in the village’s best interest to purchase the building after all. Mike Ray and David Campbell own the ground the ambulance building sits on and the Ambulance Board owns the building itself. After consultation with the village attorney, Mayor “Skip” Land determined, and all the board members agreed, that it would be more economically feasible to use their own space than to purchase the building, which would cost the village $5,000 for making the transfer, as well as the money it would take for any additions to and for upkeep of the building. The ambulance board will most likely sign off on transferring the ambulance building to Ray and Campbell.
Lisa Partain of Lisa’s Attic requested $4,500 in TIF money to replace the front windows and the back door of her building as they would also like to sell guns. There is a small hole in the front window from a BB gun and the back door is in poor condition and needs to be replaced. The board members without hesitation agreed to give her the money.
John Rednour, representing Kelly Ackerman, owner of the Quick Stop, requested TIF funds to put in a laundromat in the back of the building and to open up the front of the building a little. But in order for his request to be granted, the TIF district would have to be extended to Kelly’s Quick Stop. The board voted to table the matter until next month’s meeting, so Mayor Land can consult with their TIF attorneys and look into the matter further.
The board agreed to pay the White County Sheriff’s Department dispatch fee of $16,100 for this year, which is the same amount as last year. It will be paid in a lump sum.
A change order was approved for$500 to Wiggs Excavating for piping and water meters for Phase III of the Water Main Project.
There is still a search going on for a full and/or part time police officer, with the deadline for applications on February 25th.
After the Water Main Project is completed, the Illinois EPA will send out a survey to every resident of the Phase III area.
The three recently hired employees that have ended their six month probation period will receive a $1.12 an hour raise Their newest employee, Britney O’Daniel, started work on January 31st.
It was decided that the village would leave its money in cash at Fifth Third Bank until April 1st and then transfer it two CD’s. In the meantime, they’ll talk to other institutions in the area to see if they could possibly get a better deal.
In the Police Report for January, there were five reports written, no arrests made, and one citation issued, along with nine 9-1-1 calls.
