An officer with the White County Sheriff’s Department responded to a possible burglary at a location in Carmi Thursday, November 4th that was not included in the release WROY/WRUL news received.

A monitor alarm was tripped along with multiple other alarms.  The caretaker of the property, 43 year old Joe Winter of Carmi, arrived on the scene and said he noticed the side door of an out-building had been forced open.  The box that holds the alarm system had been tampered with, but Winter said it didn’t seem like anything was taken.  He said he was going to remove multiple ATV’s in the building along with a mower and place them at his residence.  Winter didn’t know who had damaged the door and got in, but heard that a male and female from the Maunie area had been doing similar things at other locations throughout the county.  The property is owned by Matthew Agin, who does not live in Illinois.

When leaving Winter noticed that the air conditioner units to the house on the property had been knocked out of the windows and that items were stacked by the rear door.  The officer secured the window as best as possible, and Winter said he would take care of the rest when he returned.  No complaint was filed. Then at about one o’clock that afternoon, 32 year old Michael Haug of Evansville came to the White County Sheriff’s Office to report the theft of an all terrain vehicle.  He said he had a 2004 Yamaha Bruin stolen that was parked behind the building that was burglarized.  He said he saw the ATV was missing at around 11 AM.

The vehicle was entered into LEADS as stolen and a report on the burglary was filed.
