Grayville City Council
The Grayville City Council met in regular session Monday night. The Treasurer reports $1,466,371.05 in the Restricted Account, $918,375.83 in the Investment Account, and $153,784.78 in cash available for operations, for a total of $2,538,531.66.
The council approved change order #3 for the waterline project in the amount of $1,950.
The Police Chief reported that during the month of June there were 87 calls and 10 incident reports consisting of two burglary, three theft, two criminal damage to property, one violation of an order of protection, one identity theft, and one driving on revoked/restricted driving permit; there were also two citations written.
In the Commissioner’s Reports, Commissioner Baldwin brought up that the Fourth of July is over and it is time to end all fireworks for the sake of household pets, he addressed an ongoing issue with people dumping their old couches, mattresses and box springs etc. on the curbside, and that it is time to enforce residents moving their trashcans back to the house and off of the side of the city streets.
Commissioner Jordan reported oil income of $1,639, and Commissioner James reported that the new stop signs shipped on the 8th of July and should arrive soon.
The Mayor reported that work on the water tower project is going to schedule, as is the water main project.
In Executive Session Action the Mayor recommended the hiring of Brandon Smythe as full-time officer as well as the hiring of one part-time officer to Grayville Police Department. The council unanimously approved.
In the only item of old business addressed by the council, the council approved Ordinance No. 915 for the sale of property at 110 W. Mills St.
In new business the council approved the Grayville Days Committee’s requests for Labor Day celebrations. Approved was the closure of streets downtown from Thursday, September 2nd at 4 p.m. until the following Sunday evening at the completion of Grayville Days. Streets affected will include W. North St from the Fire Dept. To the 4-Way Stop on Saturday, September 4th at 1:30 p.m. for the parade, and on the evening of Sunday the 5th from the old Police Dept. on North St. to South St. for fireworks.
The council also agreed to donate $5,000 to Grayville Days.
Also, in new business the council approved Ordinance No. 916 Amending Enterprise Zone Boundaries/Amend Intergovernmental Agreement for the large solar project going on in White County.
The next regular session Grayville City Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 26th at 7 p.m. at the Grayville City Hall.
