Around five dozen volunteers braved what turned into a sultry Saturday to help build their part in Sleep in Heavenly Peace’s nationwide goal of 7,500 beds. It was hot, but the reason for their work kept smiles on everyone’s faces. Kyle Fenton organized the local chapter and tells us more about why Saturday was special.
Fenton says he was moved to begin a local chapter after seeing Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs fame working with the organization.
It’s easy to believe that things like kids without beds doesn’t happen here. It’s something we think of third world countries or maybe destitute areas of large cities. Children without beds happens everywhere though.
Whether you know a child in need, have a child in need, would like to donate time or money, Fenton says it’s easy to get involved. You can search facebook for Sleep in Heavenly Peace – IL, White Co or simply visit http://www.shpbeds.org and search in your area for our local chapter which actually serves White, Gallatin, and Saline Counties. The day turned out a success as the group exceeded their goal by making a total of 35 bunks or 70 total beds.
