The Carmi White County baseball and softball seasons came to a close Friday and Saturday. Benton ended the baseball team’s season handing the Bulldogs a 13-1 loss. Three pitchers combined in the effort for CWCHS, each pitching in an inning and a third apiece. Junior Brodie Atteberry started the game giving up 5 hits and 6 earned runs while walking 3. Sophomore Zach Roark came on in the second allowing 2 hits and 4 runs, 2 of them earned. Roark did pick up a K, but also walked 5. Senior Will Ledford finished up allowing just 1 hit, but 3 runs, all unearned. The Rangers put up a consistent effort offensively plating 3 in the first, another 3 in the second, 4 in the third, and 3 more for good measure in the 4th. The Dogs had some chances, but couldn’t capitalize. Senior Devin Rankin went 2 for 3 from the dish as did Junior Cal York. Landon Niehaus and Branten Stockton picked up the other 2 hits for the Bulldogs.
Saturday afternoon, Johnston City ended the Lady Bulldogs ambitions for a regional championship, toppling CWCHS by a 9-1 final. Audrey Upton pitched a complete game for the Lady Bulldogs. Her line for the day, 6 innings, 14 hits, she gave up 9 runs, 7 of them earned, struck out just one and walked 3. Sophomore Gabby Overturf was solid on the mound for the 18-5 Lady Indians. She tossed 7 innings of 4-hit ball giving up just 1 unearned run. Overturf picked up 5 strikeouts on the day and walked 3. Carmi White County’s hits came from Kadie Simmons, Kadee Milligan, and Hannah Lueke. Milligan went 2 for 2 and walked.
