White County Sheriff’s Office Receives 2 More Reports of Unemployment Fraud

The White County Sheriff’s Department received a report from Gary B. Mitchell, Monday morning, that someone had fraudulently filed an unemployment claim in his name. He told Deputy Spencer he received a letter from the Illinois Department of Employment Security informing him that a claim had been made. Mitchell said he had not filed for unemployment insurance benefits. The Sheriff’s Department warns if you receive any such letters, take no action requested in the letter, contact the Sheriff’s Department and go to the IDES website to report the issue to them. If you receive a debit card for the claim, please destroy the card without activating it and monitor your bank accounts and credit cards.

James D. Renshaw reported to the White County Sheriff’s Department, Tuesday morning, that someone had fraudulently filed unemployment claims in his name. Renshaw says he received letters from the State of Oregon and the State of Michigan in reference to unemployment benefits. He said a subject had attempted to use his identity to obtain unemployment benefits in both states, but were denied. Renshaw told Sgt. Poole he never applied for the benefits and has never given any individual permission to use his identifiers to apply for benefits. The fraud report was filed with the White County Sheriff’s Department.
