DONATION TO THE FAIRFIELD MEMORIAL HOSPITAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Clemence Elizabeth Cox Scholarship fund through the Jerry L. Cox Foundation has donated $300,000 to the scholarship program at Fairfield Memorial Hospital for nurses and other individuals seeking careers in the medical field.

The scholarship provides financial assistance to students entering the medical field, as well as, those pursuing advanced degrees in healthcare. Assistance is provided for tuition, books, and other direct educational expenses.

This year’s recipients include: Jaylynn Tucker, who is pursuing a RN degree; Mikayla Troyer, who is pursuing a RN degree; Jenna Schnepper, who is pursuing a RN degree; Hollie Barrett RN BSN, who is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Nursing; Jennifer Smith RN BSN, who is pursuing an Advanced Nurse Practitioner degree to become a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP);Shae Barrett RN BSN, who is pursuing an Advanced Nurse Practitioner Degree to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA); Steve Welty RN CDE, who is pursuing an Advanced Nurse Practitioner Degree to be a Family Nurse Practitioner with an emphasis in Diabetes Management.

“After the passing of my mother I wanted to do something to honor her name. While I was in Vietnam I saw a lot of hardworking nurses doing their job and doing it well and I wanted a way to give back to something I know was beneficial to our mission. When the pandemic hit we were faced with a desperate need for healthcare workers and I feel like giving back to the nursing program by helping fund their schooling I’m helping fulfil a need for the help we desperately need during this time.” stated Jerry Cox.

“Fairfield Memorial Hospital is honored to be a part of the Clemence Elizabeth Cox Scholarship fund through the Jerry L. Cox Foundation. Through this endowment, we will be able to help support local community members in the pursuit of careers in healthcare while helping to grow and sustain our staff. Each of these recipients have signed a commitment to work for Fairfield Memorial Hospital after graduation. This shows not only a dedication to helping others, but they will be providing medical care to their families, friends, neighbors, and their hometown communities.” commented FMH CEO Katherine Bunting-Williams, Ph.D., LNHA.
